Since its establishment in 1973, the General Surgery Department of Jiangsu Cancer Hospital has tried out the concept of special treatment. There are five sub-specialty groups: mammary cancer specialty group, colorectal cancer specialty group, liver, gallbladder, pancreas and thyroid specialty group, urinary cancer specialty group and gastric cancer specialty group. After more than 40 years of development and growth, five special diagnosis and treatment centers have been formed, which are centered on diseases and characterized by comprehensive diagnosis and treatment: breast cancer diagnosis and treatment center, colorectal cancer diagnosis and treatment center, liver, gallbladder, pancreas and thyroid diagnosis and treatment center, urinary cancer diagnosis and treatment center and gastric cancer diagnosis and treatment center. The General Surgery Department consists of five wards and has 150 medical and nursing personnel, and 190 beds have been approved and opened. There are 59 doctors, including 18 chief physicians, 10 deputy chief physicians, 4 associate professors, 8 master's supervisors, 1 post-doctoral scholar, 27 PhDs, 8 overseas visiting scholars. There are 1 top-notch health professional of Top Health Talents in Jiangsu Province, 4 Young Talents of Jiangsu Province in the Project of "Strengthening Health through Science and Education" and 5 training talents in the "Six Talents Peak in Jiangsu Province ", 1 in “Provincial 333 Engineering Talents” project, and 1 in the project of “Key Talents of Maternal and Child Health in Jiangsu Province”.

In 2010, the Breast Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment Center was awarded "Jiangsu Breast Cancer Clinical Research Center" by Jiangsu Provincial Health Department, the Standing Committee of the Mammary Disease Training Expert Committee of the Chinese Medical Association, the Member Unit of the Thyroid Breast Group of the Surgical Society of Jiangsu Medical Association, and the Deputy Director Unit of the Breast Cancer Professional Committee of Jiangsu Anti-Cancer Association and Standing Committee of Mammary Disease Professional Committee of Jiangsu Institute of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine. The Colorectal Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment Center was awarded "Jiangsu Colorectal Cancer Clinical Research Center" by Jiangsu Provincial Health Department in 2010. The Center for Diagnosis and Treatment of Gastric Cancer is a member unit of the Gastric Cancer Committee of the Chinese Anti-Cancer Association, director unit of the Gastric Cancer Committee of the Jiangsu Anti-Cancer Association, and a member unit of the Gastroenterology Group of the Surgical Society of the Jiangsu Medical Association. The Urinary Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment Center is a member unit of the Professional Committee of Urinary Male Reproductive Tumors of the Chinese Anti-cancer Association, a deputy director unit of the Professional Committee of Urinary Male Reproductive Tumors of the Jiangsu Anti-cancer Association, a vice-chairman of the Professional Group of Urinary Male Reproductive Tumors of the Jiangsu Medical Association, and a member of the Vice-Chairman and Member Unit of Section and Professional Committee.

The General Surgery Department of Jiangsu Cancer Hospital has presided over or participated in more than 50 multicenter clinical trials at home and abroad. Standardized treatment and comprehensive treatment are the key points of discipline construction, and the basic principle is special treatment, multi-disciplinary cooperation and individualized treatment. The general surgery department routinely carries out routine breast cancer modified radical mastectomy, breast conserving surgery, sentinel lymph node biopsy, various types of breast reconstruction, etc., especially breast cancer reconstruction surgery in the central quadrant, precise positioning resection for non-palpable breast lesions; laparoscopic radical prostatectomy, laparoscopic partial nephrectomy, laparoscopic retroperitoneal lymphadenectomy; various difficult hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery, including hepatopancreaticoduodenectomy, hepatic tail Lobectomy, radical resection of hilar cholangiocarcinoma, hemihepatectomy and pancreaticoduodenectomy; standardized open and endoscopic radical gastrectomy for gastric cancer, all kinds of enlarged, reduced and functional gastric cancer, neoadjuvant treatment for advanced gastric cancer, metastatic treatment for advanced gastric cancer, CME standard radical resection for colon cancer, TME standard for rectal cancer Accurate radical resection, genetic screening of FAP and HNPCC for hereditary colorectal cancer, and diagnosis and treatment, including total ileectomy and J-Pouch anal anastomosis. In our country, we have taken the lead in precise localization and excision of minimal breast lesions under magnetic resonance localization, mammography, ultrasound-guided implantation of prostate cancer I125 seeds, neoadjuvant chemotherapy for bladder transitional cell carcinoma, sentinel lymph node biopsy for penile cancer, transformation therapy for gastric cancer with intraperitoneal implantation metastasis and advanced gastric cancer, prophylactic intraperitoneal hyperthermic perfusion therapy for advanced gastric cancer, and various new digestive tract reconstruction methods for proximal stomach. The General Surgery Department carries out the earliest neoadjuvant radiotherapy for low rectal cancer combined with local or trans-abdominal or trans-anal resection and anal-preserving anastomosis. The improved and optimized operation methods such as TATA were introduced, and the trans-anal conformal resection for low rectal cancer was originally created. Postoperative defecation function was significantly improved through all these improvements. We presided over the compilation and publication of the Handbook of Standardized Comprehensive Diagnosis and Treatment of Breast Cancer and the Handbook of Standardized Comprehensive Diagnosis and Treatment of Gastric Cancer, and gradually formulated the specifications for the diagnosis and treatment of various specific diseases.

In the past three years, more than 120 academic papers have been published, including more than 50 SCI papers, and more than 40 projects have been funded. Among them, 4 projects have been funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and nearly 10 provincial and ministerial awards have been awarded. The standardized comprehensive diagnosis and treatment methods of various diseases in our department have a high professional influence in Jiangsu province and in China.

In the past three years, there has been one award for the introduction of new medical technologies in Jiangsu Province.
Academic leader, Professor Chen Huanqiu, chief physician& master supervisor, who was the Visiting Scholar to Aichi Cancer Center in Japan in 2002 and is the director of the General Surgery Department of Jiangsu Cancer Hospital, has been engaged in the surgical treatment of gastric benign and malignant tumors for more than 30 years, and has profound attainments in the comprehensive treatment of gastric cancer mainly by surgery. He presided over and participated in several national, provincial and ministerial scientific research projects, won two new medical technologies, published more than 100 papers on gastric cancer, and compiled a Handbook for Standardized Comprehensive Diagnosis and Treatment of Gastric Cancer. He is currently a member of the Professional Committee of Gastric Cancer, the Standing Committee of the Upper Gastrointestinal Doctor Committee of the Chinese Medical Association, member of Gastrointestinal Oncology Group of the Oncology Society of Chinese Medical Association, the Chairman of the Gastric Cancer Professional Committee of the Jiangsu Anti-Cancer Association, the Board Member of the Jiangsu Anti-Cancer Association, and member of Gastrointestinal Oncology Group of the Oncology Society of Jiangsu Medical Association.
